Concept

Surprisingly nearly every plant has the ability to communicate with one another by sending out pheromone signals known as Methyl Jasmonate. When theJapanese perennial vine Kudzu detects a threat, the plant swiftly emits Methyl Jasmonate, resembling a potent chemical shower of warning signals. It travels through the air from injured leaves, and is taken in by nearby plants through tiny pores in their leaves. This magical mist-like Jasmonate, filled with condensed messages, does not solely aim to its own family species, but is abundantly shared with various types of plants in the area. Jasmonate is the language of multiple species that conveys genuinely significant messages to the global community.
Sound objects, particularly those that were once discarded, have extensive experiences of witnessing the evolution of the world similar to long-lived plants.
Is it possible that these objects are also transmitting pheromone signals trying to communicate something significant to one another? Perhaps regarding their cultural identities? Social matters? Geopolitical concerns? What about our common musical instruments?
What does a pheromone signals from discarded objects sound like, and how do they differ across various cultures?
We are also interested in exploring how to transform Jasmonate into sound. How do composers and performers establish the appropriate context to convey the idea of mist-like expressive Jasmonate that captivates the global audience? How do we ensure that we accurately represent what the objects with to express?
What is the current state of the world from the viewpoint of discarded objects?
Project Jasmonate - The Global Pheromone of Discarded Objects is a concert series project to answer all these questions!
